Robert Wayne Johnson

Robert Wayne Johnson, 70, died peacefully on Thursday morning, February 13, 2020 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel, Indiana.

Born March 14, 1949, Bob was the first child of the late Phyllis Mae (Robbins) Johnson of Adams Twp. Cass County, IN and the late Russell Eugene Johnson of Walker Twp. Rush County, IN. 

He is survived by his wife Gale Alice (Davidson) of Carmel, IN; brother Richard William (Roberta Joy Krintz) of Peru, IN; three nephews, Benjamin (Lindsey Fisher) of Fort Wayne, IN, Christian of Peru, and Michael of Carmel; and two great-nephews. His brother Thomas Russell of Twelve Mile, IN preceded him in death.

His extended family includes: three sisters-in-law, Anna Kelly of Portage, MI, Carol Price (Allen) of Moss Beach, CA, and Georgia Jones (Bill) of Battleground, IN; eight nieces and nephews, Kathy Gibson (Mark) of South Bend, IN, David Skidmore (Lynda) of Naperville, IL, Jeff Powlen (Lisa) of Flora, IN, Scott Powlen (Amy) of Half Moon Bay, CA, Aaron Kelly (Tania) of Bakersfield, CA, Phoebe Brosnan (Dan) of Portage, MI, Jennifer Ruhl (Patrick) of Searcy, AR, and Katie Bechman (Daniel) of Noblesville, IN; and fourteen great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bob was an Honor Society student and a three-sport letterman at North Miami High School graduating in 1967 with a scholarship to Indiana University, Bloomington. He later graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Finance and earned an M.B.A. from Purdue's Krannert School of Management. 

His varied work life included co-managing the family farm near Twelve Mile with his father and younger brother, Tom. Bob worked for Prudential Financial in the field of agricultural finance. He was the Chief Financial Officer for a pork production company in Missouri and a restoration company in Indianapolis. Bob was a Certified Public Accountant and retired in 2017 after working several years as a tax accountant. 

Bob was never a spectator, his personality demanded that he be totally involved, be it work, family, or leisure. He and Gale spent their 47 years together immersed in work, traveling the world, and helping raise nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bob’s legacy of kindness, grace, drive, humor and wisdom has made a profound, positive and lasting impact on the many lives he has touched. 

Funeral services will be held at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 5588 State Road 25 North, Logansport, IN on Saturday, February 22, 2020. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital or a favorite charity.
