William R. Hayes, Jr., 76, Peru, passed away at 1:43 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Community Howard Regional Hospital, Kokomo.

Born May 25, 1940, in Greenville, Tennessee, he was the son of  William R. Hayes, Sr. and Isabelle Wright Hayes.  He was married to Aurora Cantu on March  9, 1964, in Kokomo, Indiana, and she survives.

He was a member of the New Life United Methodist Church, Mexico, United Autoworkers Local 292, and was a United States Navy Veteran.  He began working repairing car radios and went on to work for Delco Electronics, where he retired.  He loved mowing and taking care of his property and being outside.  He enjoyed being with others, visiting with his neighbors and especially Sunday morning coffee with his daughter. 

He is survived by one daughter, Vanessa Hayes, Peru; one sister, Jo Marshall, Asheville, North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, William Russell "Rusty" Hayes III, one brother, Charles Douglas "Doug" Hayes, father,William Hayes, Sr., and mother and step-father, Isabelle and William Dodrill.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2017, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver.   Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico, with Military Rites provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit.  

Visitation will be from noon until the time of service on Sunday, at the funeral home.
